Leap Wireless International now owns Verizon Wireless’ excess PCS and AWS spectrum in various markets across the United States, and it now plans to acquire 12 megahertz of 700 MHz A-Block spectrum in Chicago. Leap’s non-controlled, majority-owned venture Savary Island Wireless LLC (Savary Island) also completed the sale of AWS spectrum in various markets to Verizon Wireless. In connection with this transaction, Leap also repaid the balance of a promissory note that was secured by a portion of the spectrum Savary Island sold to Verizon Wireless…Country Cablevision used a federal stimulus award to begin deploying the FieldSmart Fiber Scalability Center (FSC) from Minn.-based Clearfield Inc. as part of its fiber-optic broadband network build in the rural mountain counties of Mitchell and Yancey, N.C. The cableco plans to place more than 100 FieldSmart FSC 288 PON cabinets throughout its service area, with plans of going live next year.
