Principal, iBox Systems
A founder of iBox in 2004, Martin steers the company’s trajectory in product development, as well as research and integration. With customers including Comcast, DirecTV, Rovi and Samsung, the pace of innovation is speedy, and the solutions are varied. Good thing Martin still revels in the early stages of a new project “when the mashup of different technologies, business requirements and operational processes first come together into a solution,” she says. Who would she want to swap jobs with for a month? Operations. “I am usually on the designing and building side of the world, but I always learn so much when I spend time using the system,” she says.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
The early stages of a project when the mashup of different technologies, business requirements and operational processes first comes together into a solution.
What’s been the biggest story in cable this year?
The acceleration of open source platforms like RDK have really changed the CPE landscape and enabled a more innovative application development environment. Next generation guidance and personalized content discovery applications are now sharing the same cloud-based infrastructure and rapid release cycles as their web and mobile counterparts.
How do you define success in the workplace?
Working on challenging problems with people I like and respect.
Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?
I enjoy working and am fortunate to work with great friends, so the lines tend to be quite blurry. But I try to actively assess my priorities and where my time can best be spent, because it is easy to go on autopilot and lose sight of what is important.
Who would you want to swap jobs with for a month and why?
Operations. I am usually on the designing and building side of the world, but I always learn so much when I spend time using the system.
