Dennis Mathew

Diversity starts at the top for Mathew, who has surrounded himself with a diverse team of executives and is a staunch supporter of and a champion for Optimum’s eight affinity groups, which provide employees a platform to connect, support one another and advocate for positive change within the organization and beyond.

Will AI help or hurt diversity and inclusion? Optimum is exploring many ways to utilize AI to benefit our customers, business and teammates, and it’s already having a positive impact. But we will be thoughtful with every step we take to ensure AI does not undo the incredible progress that has been made in fostering a more inclusive society. I’m very hopeful that over time AI will further democratize high-quality education.

Advice I would give a recent graduate: Find a coach or mentor! Coaches and mentors have been critical to shaping my career journey. Try reaching out to leaders you admire to connect over a meal or coffee. Having an authentic interest in the individual and being bold enough to ask is a great way to get started. At Optimum, I encourage my leaders to be open and transparent, allowing for a stronger connection between leaders and employees.

What nonprofit are you proud to champion and why? Education is a passion of mine, and I’m proud to be the co-founder and Chairman of a nonprofit called Bloom India, which has the mission to provide high-quality education to the underprivileged throughout India. Education is freedom, and through Bloom we know that children, mothers, fathers, and whole communities can be transformed through learning. I’m also incredibly proud of the work that Optimum does through our partnership with DonorsChoose, which provides support for local public-school classrooms in the communities we serve.
